Patrícia was a member of the group as a master student in Bioengineering (University of Minho, 2012) and a research fellow (2012/13). She had a BSc in Biotechnology Engineering, from the Bragança Polytechnic Institute (2010). She worked on the project “The role of Gardnerella vaginalis biofilms in Bacterial Vaginosis”, co-supervised by Ana Henriques. She defended her thesis on the 26th November 2012, on the topic “Isolation and characterization of vaginal microorganisms and its association with Bacterial Vaginosis” with a grade of 18 out of 20.
Patrícia’s latest paper…
“Gardnerella vaginalis outcompetes 29 other bacterial species isolated from patients with bacterial vaginosis, using in an in vitro biofilm formation model”, describes a series of functional microbiological experiments that characterized the virulence potential of 30 species involved in bacterial vaginosis.
