2017: day trip to Viana do Castelo

With a new foreign student from a landlocked country (Moldavia), it was unanimous that this year destination had to involve a visit to the ocean. The selected destination was the northern city of Viana do Castelo, famous for it’s traditional celebrations of Our Lady of the Agony. The morning started with a walking tour of downtown and the historical district, and we then headed to the hilltop sanctuary of Saint Luzia, for a breathtaking view of the city, river and ocean.  After a homemade picnic, we headed to a small beach outside the city, and enjoyed a not too warm Sunday beach afternoon, before heading back to Braga.
